Current Work

I am a self employed (freelance) software developer at Aura Media, which specialises in web based software applications. The main technologies are PHP with MySQL for the back end and XHTML, CSS & Javascript on the front end. I am much more technical that graphically talented. Luckily I know some very fine graphic designers.

I do custom development and customisation on third party systems like WordPress. Sometimes I do overflow work for outside groups who need specialist skills mainly around PHP.

Technical Background

I have been working in software development for over 10 years now. After completing an honours degree in Economics I took what I thought would be a short term job in a internal software testing department of a company. Not so temporary, but within 9 months I had moved into the PC development team. Front end Windows desktop development with Powerbuilder and a Sybase ASE on UNIX backend. Over the next few years I mainly did database development work with Syabse ASE, Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server with some Powerbuilder, Java and shell scripting thrown in.

I made my first web site on the now departed Geocities sometime in 1996, for a radio show i was doing at the uni station 2NUR. But it was not until I discovered PHP around 2003, that I got into serious web development.
